When Sam Raimi took over the role as director for the upcoming World of Warcraft movie, he brought on veteran screenwriter Robert Rodat to write the script, but before Rodat signed on, the first three drafts of the movie had already been written by Gary Whitta. He (Whitta) had already developed a story that he referred to as "true to the world of the game" and also accessible to those who had never played the game. However, when Raimi came on as director, he wanted to tell a completely different story. Despite the change, Whitta believes Raimi's movie will still do a great job of telling the Warcraft story.
